Life, What’s It All About?

This booklet has been written with you in mind! Its four short chapters seeks to provide succinct answers to some of life’s ultimate questions.

Chapter 1 examines the question of origins. It has been rightly said that knowing where we came from helps us to know where we are going.

There are probably 3 possibilities of how life on earth began.
    1. We came from aliens. It would take too long to examine this option since we would also need to discover what kind of life there was in the universe before the time of the aliens! Professor Richard Dawkins however seems to favour this theory. He has made the following statement. ‘Life could conceivably have been seeded on earth by an alien intelligence from another planet.’

    2. Life evolved. All life is the result of the processes of evolution. Noble prize winning scientist, George Wald writing in the ‘Scientific Magazine’ of August 1954 makes the following confession. ‘There are only two possibilities as to how life arose. One is spontaneous generation arising to evolution; the other is a supernatural creative act of God. There is no third possibility. Spontaneous generation, that life arose from non-living matter was scientifically disproved 120 years ago by Louis Pasteur and others. That leaves us with the only possible conclusion that that life arose as a supernatural creative act of God. I will not accept that philosophically because I do not want to believe in God. Therefore I choose to believe that which I know is scientifically impossible; spontaneous generation arising to evolution.’

    3. Everything was created by an all wise God. ‘In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth’ (Genesis1 verse 1).
